My site has been active with Trim Healthy Mama recipes and articles for over three years now. I've been sharing not only recipes, but my journey as well as much of my heart.   Things are about to change.  I know some of my readers were worried when I announced that some changes were coming.  Never fear, I'm NOT going anywhere!  I'm just adding another writer to my website. Meet the Mr.... shanchallengepic Like many of you, I've been on THM by myself the past several years. Yes, Shan eats what I make for dinner each night, but during the day he often eats whatever he wants too. He's never had a huge desire, until now, to stay on plan much of the time. He shared his desire with me and agreed to let me document his journey, weigh-ins, measurements and food! I knew this would help so many other families out there so, this is our plan for A Home With Purpose. I'll continue to share recipes and my own journey, but my man will be sharing his as well and throwing out the THM Man Challenge. For the next 31 days (June), Shan will be working the Trim Healthy Mama plan with me.  We'll keep track of his food, menu, any exercise he may do, etc.  We will be sharing it here and in a group we've formed on Facebook for men and women doing the THM plan together.  This is a family friendly page.  After the 31 days are up, it's your turn!  Shan will do the  next 29 days of July with you!  At the end of that time frame we'll be giving ONE guy a nice prize. Whomever shows us that they indeed participated and did the plan, will be entered into the drawing to win a brand new Char-Broil Classic 4-Burner Gas Grill. This has a $200 value.

We'll share more details as the start date approaches.   Back to some facts about my husband.  Shan is 6'1 and weights 285 pounds.  He is 44 years old.  We've been married for over 17 years for those who many be wondering.   He's an amazing husband and dad and loves Arkansas Razorback football.  (Yes, we are located in Ohio.)  He was born in the great state of Arkansas.  Shan never struggled with his weight when he was young as he was a basketball and football player.  He kept active working in a factory job in his 20's as he walked a lot during the day.  The problem hit when he took an office job.  Sound familiar?  When we married, Shan was 238 pounds.  He had a tiny tummy at that time, but started to pack on the pounds at his desk job. Shanbefore We are not here to share the perfect THM journey.  We are here to be normal, everyday folks who celebrate victories and share when they fail.  We are not giving you a perfect template to use, but will share our menu plan and food.  We'll share that weekly menu on Monday's and throughout the week we'll be sharing plated food pictures on Facebook in our new page, A Home With Purpose- THM Family Challenge.   Weigh in days will be on Wednesday since that is the official day in the week that he started. You might be asking why it's called "Family Challenge" on Facebook?  Well, we want a family friendly place for you and your husband to share the journey together.  We are also doing a THM Family challenge in August!  We are going to be doing a whole new challenge for you, your hubby and the kids.  New prizes included.  Single moms or dads are welcome as well.  We want you to get the whole family involved.  Those details will come next month. 13020372_10206209672097604_975798082_n So, join us as we start Shan's journey.  We will be doing some videos together as we go as well.  Those are sure to be entertaining.  We'll both be involved in the THM Family Challenge Group to cheer you on!  If you want to jump in and start in June, go for it!  Remember to take your stats.  The contest time will still begin on July 1st though and you'll need to take new weight and measurements then for the contest. Ladies, maybe you can gently pass this post along to the man in your life.  Dads, brothers, husbands, sons or another guy that you know may just need a little nudge to start.  You don't have to be a dad to do the challenge. THM is certainly not just for mamas either as we all know.  The plan is solid and it works!  Maybe if they follow along on Shan's journey this month, they may give it a shot in July.  You just never know.   There is plenty of time to buy the book, read it with them and to give them the tools they need to do well. Thanks for sharing this journey with us.  It's sure to be an adventure! Jen and Shan   *Our new group is not an THM official group or endorsed by THM. *This post may contain affiliate links. Good for you all! We will be starting Monday the whole family. My husband and I are bothso miserable I’ve been reading the book and have a grocery list ready for pay day! I’m a little overwhelmed especially because I know everybody will be following my lead 🙁 but that’s OK we’ll take it day by day and become a healthier family!

HI Jennifer and Shan! Thank you for starting this group. I was just thinking about getting my husband to do THM with me as a team. But hadn’t brought it up to him yet. And then your challenge post came up! I am so excited that we both can cheer each other on. . I know we are meant to do this together!
    Thank you !

My husband has been on THM since November when we started to together. He’s 6’5″ and in the low 300s. He’s lost 40 pounds and has gone from a XXXL to a XXL! This sounds like a good challenge for us as a couple!

    • godzgaljen@gmail.com

Wow! He’s doing great, Julie! Glad to have you join us.

Oh How Awesome!! I love that He’s going to follow the plan and see what all of it’s about, and I’m really looking forward to the family challenge 🙂

Our family of 4 has been learning & eating the THM way for a year. We have our good & bad days. This way of eating can easily be done for an entire family. Once everyone’s taste buds have adjusted & the sugar truck has stopped making deliveries the ride on this plan goes much smoother. My husband loves the food & will try anything new….even if my first attempt is a bust. The support of a family through this journey makes it more adventurous & totally attainable to reach milestones along the way. Congratulations to you both & I’m sure together you’ll do awesome!

Thanks Heather! It’s fun to do this together. 🙂

I am so excited about this and hoping hubby will join with me. Right now he’s on a low residue diet due to diverticulitis which is a total bummer because it goes against everything I’ve leaned with THM! Hopefully he’ll get the ok from the doctor to change his diet so we can begin this challenge! Where do we join

Jennifer Griffin, I appreciate the menus you have shared for your husband’s THM journey. Will you continue to share weekly menus and if so where? In a post on June 11 you share an E meal. Again appreciate “seeing” what makes up the meal. I am a beginner at this and so lost on what can make up a whole meal and how much. Can you explain why the meal you posted on the 11th was an E meal? Can you point me to any other resources that would give me ideas for a complete S E or FP meal.I am doing THM for my husband because we are trying to get his blood sugar down, and he has about 10-15 lbs to loose. The “how much can I eat” question is the most puzzling of all to me? (Let alone knowing is something an S E or FP) I have some printouts that are called “Building Blocks” for E S & FP meals., and I have been reading all I can on line. I have both the THM plan book and the cookbook> But seeing someone’s breakfast, lunch or dinner and having them label the meal really helps. Thanks for any help you can give.

Colleen Houger, I just came across these posts, and saw your question. I looked at the “E” meal you referenced. Grilled chicken breast, peas, quinoa & kale salad. Skinless chicken breast is a FP, because it has little to no fat. That means you can combine it with other foods, and that meal will become whatever the other foods dictate. If you had bacon on it, it becomes an S meal, due to fat. If you have it with foods with carbs, within the carb limits, the meal becomes an E meal. That is the beauty of having FP foods, you can have them in any setting. OK, so the rest of the meal does have some carbs in it: peas are higher in carbs, and the quinoa is a super healthy carb. Kale is FP on its own. Since a FP meat was combined with some (good) carbs, it is now a FP meal. This is a great principle to grasp. If you have an E meal, and you aren’t full, or you know you’ll be hungry too soon, you can add a FP dessert to get really full. There are lots of smoothies and cottage whips that do the trick. … Also, you ask, how much can I eat.

**NOTE** I See I typed something wrong in my first response! The meal became an E because healthy carbs were added to a FP meat. (Sorry) …..The “how much can I eat” question is where the “food freedom” comes in. In an S setting, eat til you are satisfied, but keep the carbs low. In an E setting, eat til you are satisfied, and keep the fat low, and carbs to a healthy limit (the size of your palm). In an FP setting (do you see a trend here?) eat til you are satisfied, but keep fats AND carbs low. You can always complete a meal or snack by adding FP foods to fill up. I suggest you re-read the recap of meal types, in the cookbook, beginning on page 497. It is very helpful!

Wow! I feel so fortunate to find this! I’ve been THMing on and off for about two years, and I helped my mom lose 30lbs with the plan. My hubby (who is also 6’1 and about 240) agreed around December to do the plan “in July” as I’m a teacher and would be home then to make all meals and snacks. The time is coming and I’m prepping, so your challenge has the best timing ever! I look forward to following Shan’s journey!

    • godzgaljen@gmail.com

Thanks Amanda! 🙂 I’m sure packing all the time can be challenging! I know you can do it.
